We mill only for our delicious breads and pastries.

At the Whole Grain Hearth, we take great pride in the fact that we mill all our organic whole grains fresh on a weekly basis.

We mill our own flour not only because of its superior flavour, but also because we want to maximize the nutritional value of the complete grain, including the bran (the outer layer) which contains the largest amount of insoluble fiber, magnesium, riboflavin, thiamine, niacin, iron, and zinc; and the germ (or seed) which is an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, B3, E, magnesium, iron, zinc, phosphorous, and polyunsaturated fatty acids. This is one of the reasons that we do not sift our flours (with the exception of a bit of sifting for our croissant recipe to get a desirable final result - sifted bran from this process goes to our egg farmers for their livestock to munch on!)

We are passionate about working with local farmers and suppliers to get these grains!

Our mill came all the way from New American Stone Mills in Elmore, Vermont, USA. It has two 40” natural granite stones that we re-dress about once or twice year! The frame itself is steel, which was powder coated orange to match our logo :) The mill is our pride and joy and is what makes us unique here in London, ON.
